IDPA

The La Grande IDPA shooting group is an eclecic group of men and women shooters - all of whom have the common interest of wanting to be proficient with their firearms in a simulated 'Real World" defensive environment.

Even though we hope that none of us ever has to use these "Defensive Skills" in a "Real World" situation to protect ourselves, our loved ones, or the public in general from harm. We do however, hope that if any one of us does have to use these skills, we are the ones who come home to tell the story.

If you are interested in learning and practicing your handgun "Defensive Shooting Skills", PLEASE come and join us on the second Saturday of each month at the Pistol Range on Rankin Road.

About this discipline

IDPA is a shooting sport that uses practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios.

IDPA shooting events require use of practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense. No "competition only" equipment is permitted in IDPA matches since the main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship.

Goals of IDPA

I: Promote safe and proficient use of guns and equipment suitable for self-defense use.

II: Provide a level playing field for all competitors to test the skill and ability of the individual, not their equipment or gamesmanship.

III: Provide separate divisions for equipment and classifications for shooters, such that guns with similar characteristics are grouped together and people with similar skills compete only against each other.

IV: Provide shooters with practical and realistic courses of fire that simulate a potentially life-threatening encounter or that tests skills that would be required to survive a life-threatening encounter.

V: Offer a practical shooting sport that is responsive to the shooters and sponsors, with unprecedented stability of equipment rules.

VI: Offer a practical shooting sport that allows the competitors to concentrate on the development of their shooting skills and fellowship with other likeminded shooters.

Who May Shoot

We welcome all shooters who may legally bear arms, and do it safely. We fully expect that those shooters will accept the greater responsibility that accompanies going armed. We are peaceful, law-abiding and civil, as befits an armed society. We are however, not pacifists and have chosen to assume responsibility for our personal safety, owning and shooting firearms.

We especially encourage the participation of law enforcement officers, who may shoot with either concealed or duty gear.

We will not accommodate those who wish to use skills acquired through our matches for criminal intent, or those who do not take safety seriously
